The No-Transfer Zone- Safe Patient Transfers

You are all familiar with the term no-fly zone. The same principles apply to patient transfers. There are 3 clearly defined zones and the patient’s zone is a no-transfer zone. You can only enter this zone for two reasons: 1. to attach a gait belt or to grab a gait belt. 2. To lean the patient forward. Before the transfer begins you must return to the neutral zone. Once the transfer is initiated you will enter you zone and the transfer will proceed smoothly.  See videos on to learn more about safe manual patient transfer techniques.
